The remaining characters appear somewhat randomly and seem to have little purpose.

Along the way, both boys learn painful lessons of adolescence.

Through it all the quality of the writing and structure of the storytelling make for a book you just cannot put down.

Fi’s adventures, though occasionally not at all credible, are fun to read about.
